Remember that food court beef and broccoli that you always begged your mom for at your favorite mall food court?.... yeah, this is way better.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pound denver steak
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 pound fresh broccoli
  • 2 teaspoon sesame seeds, optional garnish
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 teaspoon garlic, grated
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 6 tablespoon low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon packed light brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon corn starch
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 8 4/5 ounce 90 second rice
  • 8 4/5 ounce 90 second rice

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ingredients
  2. Start a large pan warming on medium heat. I use a 16" frying pan, but a wok works even better
  3. Slick steak thinly against the grain
  4. Protip: add 1 package super firm tofu, cut into small cubes if you want to spread this recipe. Tofu tastes delicious in this sauce.
  5. Cut your broccoli into bit sized chunks.
  6. Note: you can substitute frozen stir fry vegetables - I recommend costco brand. About 4 cups equals our broccoli... more or less to your taste.
  7. Combine hot water and corn starch, stir to make a slurry
  8. Combine the following to make your sauce
  9. soy sauce
  10. sesame oil
  11. ginger
  12. garlic
  13. black pepper
  14. stir well to dissolve the sugar
  15. add your corn start slurry and set aside.
  16. place a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 Tbsp oil.
  17. Add broccoli florets and sauté 4-5 minutes, partially covered with lid and stirring or tossing several times until broccoli is bright green and crisp-tender then remove from pan.
  18. If you prefer softer broccoli, add 2 Tbsp water before covering with the lid and it will steam cook the broccoli.
  19. add 1 Tbsp oil. Add beef in a single layer and sauté 2 minutes per side or just until cooked through. Quickly pull out a piece to test for doneness.
  20. Add the sauce, reduce heat to medium low and simmer 3-4 minutes. It will thickened. Add broccoli and stir to combine.
  21. Stir in 1-2 Tbsp water to thin the sauce if desired.
  22. Serve over white rice.
